Welcome To A Creative Journey of Possibility & Joy
When I dropped out of the comparatively safe world of Web Development in order to focus on something completely new to me… creating and sharing art… it was a huge and scary leap into the unknown, because I had never seen myself as an artist… a dabbler maybe, but never an artist… I just wasn’t!
In fact, I had decades worth of baggage telling me that I didn’t have any talent, that I had nothing to offer, that I was going to fall on my face, that people would laugh. With thoughts like that running through my head, you can imagine how terrifyied I was at the prospect of sharing those first steps of my artistic journey with the world!
But I did it anyway and it wasn’t as bad as I’d thought it would be.
Back then, Toula Boula wasn’t anything special, just a convenient place where I could easily post my entries for the Zentangle® challenges that I’d started participating in. But… as I was putting myself and my work out into the scary world, I was also meeting all of these truly amazing people who weren’t laughing at me… they where encouraging me!
Their kindess and generosity of spirit gave me the confidence to not only continue my journey as an artist-in-progress, but to celebrate every faltering step I took on the path and to push myself past my fears and try new things, experiment with new concepts and techniques… to be more playful.
After a while I realized something pretty amazing… the further I pushed myself, the happier, stronger, more playful and joy-filled I was becoming in both my work and in my life.
I wasn’t just embracing art, I was embracing myself… and it was liberating!
Toula Boula became more than a way for me to share my stumbling attempts at art, it became my way of sharing & spreading that gift of couragous playfulness and joyful living with other artists-in-progress.
You are not alone. No matter how far along the path you are, or where your passions are leading you, we’re right here with you. All you have to do is let go of your fear and take that first step.
Come, join us on this incredible journey of creativity, possibility & joy!
First Step: Get to Know Us & Introduce Yourself
If you’re a new visitor to my eclectic little world… or even an old friend who was there in the beginning… don’t be shy, come right on in and make yourself at home, everyone is welcome!
If you ARE new here, the first place you’re definately gonna want to visit is the About Page where I introduce myself and my little family of desert dwellers. Then, you absolutly, positively must drop by the Contact Page to say hello & introduce yourself, because I really, really, really can’t wait to meet you!
Oh, and don’t forget to head over to Facebook and join the community!
Second Step: Explore All the Flotsam & Jetsam
As you may have deduced for yourself, I don’t do well focusing on just one thing… honestly, there are just way too many amazing things in the world for those kind of limitations… so Toula Boula is chock full of all the things I love, from art supplies to planners and everything that goes with them to photos of my beloved desert and I’m apt to talk about just about anything because I love sharing stories about my life and my world. All of which means that there is tons and tons of (hopefully) interesting and useful stuff to explore.
You can jump right in by taking a stroll through The Blog and follow it wherever your heart leads you.
On the other hand, if you’d prefer a bit of a tour or are interested in a particular topic or destination, I’ve compiled a short list of some of my favorite posts and pages just for you.
A Few of My Favorite Pages
- Browse through My Favorite Things for a list of my very favorite art supplies, the reference books I couldn’t live without, and a grab-bag of indespensible flotsam & Jetsam.
- No matter what kind of art you create, Supply Your Passion with a huge list of resources where you can find anything and everything you need to get started or keep moving forward.
- Of course, this list wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t beg you to take a look at My Artwork. While you’re at it, you should definately visit My Beautful Desert, it really is something to see!
Just One More Tiny Little Thing
There is one question, well sort of two questions, that I get asked all the time… it’s a good one:
How the heck do you pronounce Toula Boula & where did you come up with such a silly name?
Here’s the short(ish) answer. Toula Boula is pronounced “Too-luh Boo-luh”.
It was named in honor and rememberance of the very first tree we planted in our backyard, a tiny little twig of a Palo Verde tree, that we’d named Toula. (Yes, we name our trees. We’re odd ducks!)
The Boula part? Well… let’s just say my muse it a tad bit crazy and leave it at that!
